Tassie Trip January 2018; Cygnet Folk Festival

Cygnet Folk Festival

When Barb was asked to go along to the Cygnet Folk Festival (Jan, Nick and Pamela were going) she wasn't sure what to expect. There was no-one she really recognised on the programme, but at least the majority of the venues were inside halls or buildings, so what the heck.....
Jess had the weekend off and was more than happy to come along with us as well, so she arrived down from Hobart early on Saturday morning. We were in the middle of preparing lunch boxes to take along for the day. It was fairly overcast and really cold, so we dressed appropriately, grabbed our brollies and headed off.

The town of Cygnet is about a 25 minute drive from Charlotte Cove along a very stunning coastline. Cygnet was very crowded with the Festival in progress, with every available camping spot taken up and every available accommodation utilised. The town itself was decorated with some very colourful yarn-bombing too, to add to the feeling of festivity. The whole festival appeared to be very well organised too, with lots of volunteers showing you where to park and where to go to get tickets and a map of all the venue locations. We stopped to have a coffee first off and sample the locally made Eccles cakes...delicious!

Jan and Nick and Pam & Barb had already been along on Friday night for the evening performances and had been very impressed by a couple of the bands. "John John Festival"...a Japanese Celtic band was one of our favourites....they really got the crowd involved and got a standing ovation.

We also liked a young girl and her brother called "Girl on the Hill" who showed a lot of promise, as well as a group of six women who performed together. We enjoyed wandering around and sampling some of the street food available at the open air markets.

Overall the Cygnet Folk Festival got a big tick of approval from all of us. It was pretty fabulous! We all have some new favourite artists and even came away with a few CDs. Loved it!
