Fluted cape walk
On our second day on Bruny Island we decided to go to Adventure Bay and do the Fluted Cape walk.I'd don't know if we were a bit crazy to even try it when Barb is hampered by her arthritis in her knees and hands, Nick has just had a hip replacement less than two months previously, Jan has cardiomyopathy and her cardiac function is severely compromised. Only Pam is physically fit!
Still we went!
We parked at the car park near where you catch the Jetboat tours and as we approached the beach found some long sturdy sticks conveniently left behind by other hikers, so all of us had a stick (Barb had her own Leki Hiking pole) This was to prove exceedingly helpful once the track started to get very steep.
The initial part of the walk was a nice flat bush walk near the sea. We spotted some paddymelons but no albino ones. There were a lot of stone cairns built in some of the stony inlets. These seem to be becoming a common thing.
As we started to climb higher, we could look down to the rocks below the cliffs and catch sight of the jetboats doing their tours. We had to have frequent rest stops. luckily we were carrying plenty of water and some oranges and snacks to stay hydrated. Also lucky it wasn't too hot a day.
Barb was pretty terrified of the steep and uneven path and the high drops from the edges. We ended up curtailing the walk before we reached the pinnacle of the Cape and turning back. Even so it was a three hour hike and we were pretty happy to get back to the safety of the Tours boat restaurant where we had some lovely seafood platters and cool drinks.
