Day 10-11 Cambridge, UK

Cambridge

On Thursday 14th April we decided to have a day exploring Cambridge. It's only about a fifteen minutes drive to the Trumpington Park & Ride station from Susan's house. We thought we knew how to get there, but somehow took a wrong turn and ended up finding the station from the opposite direction. Go figure!

Barb was happy to jump on the bus rather than fight for parking in the city

The bus drops passengers right in town outside the John Lewis shopping centre, which is fortunate because it's easy to find again when it's time to go home. The streets of Cambridge can be very narrow and a bit chaotic with bikes and pedestrians. Barb would NOT like to drive here!
A bus and workman's truck come very close to grief in the narrow road

We'd only been in town five minutes and
were identified as tourists. Dunno how?

A passing cyclist told us we must go inside this
building (Lloyd's Bank) So we did!

We were glad we did. The architecture was
stunning and the tile mosaics amazing.

Cambridge is jam packed full of amazing buildings. Some are the cathedrals and churches

Some are the amazing colleges. This one was hosting a Mozart concert, hence the BBC bus outside.

Most of the colleges don't allow the general public to enter their portals (exam time)

But we did manage to sneak a peek at some of the famous quadrangles

Barb entered one private area and a passing staff
member identified us as foreign tourists and took this pic

The gardens are all so well kept

Yet another college...we lost track of which was which. This might be Queen's College?

Unsurprisingly, being a college town, there were some fabulous bookshops

Barb managed to find Fitzbillies ... a great bakery and cafe for a cream tea

The Round Church

It's so picturesque watching the gentle punting on the River Cam

John and I had gone on a punt trip last visit, so didn't succumb this time. It is fun, though.

Barb loved this cute dress shop

John was more interested to replenish his deck shoes from Clarke's shoe store

The trees are in blossom

It's impossible to not love Cambridge .... a great place to visit
