Lap Around Australia Kings Canyon

Kings Canyon Rim Walk

We were pretty excited to tackle the Kings Canyon Rim Walk today. Although it was with some trepidation after seeing the very steep stairs leading up to the scenic rim when we did the Kings creek walk yesterday.

Today we'd properly prepared ourselves. Barb had both knee braces on. We had sunscreen, insect repellent and our fly net hats on. In our back packs we carried several bottles of cold water plus some food and cut up fruit. Can't get more ready than that!

Karen decided to stay back at camp today, so Steve went on ahead of us with Ian and Kathy. John and Barb took their time with the initial very steep climb.it was something else! We were very delighted to find we had a phone signal (very briefly) when we reached the top. There's no (free) phone or internet at the campground.

We made our way along the rim going into several look-out points on the way. It was absolutely spectacular scenery looking down the canyon from this high vantage point. Words can't describe it and the pictures can't do it proper justice either. We were gob-smacked for most of the walk.
Barb was also very brave. Conquered her fear of edges to go across bridges spanning between the canyon walls and going down stairs on the edge of the steep drop.
We eventually caught up with Ian and Kathy who were waiting for Steve to come back from a diversion into the Garden of Eden. We all did the rest of the walk back together.
By the end of it we were all tired but happy and had a great sense of achievement. A great day and one of the highlights of the trip so far.
