Day 13 Last Day in Darwin

Day 13 Last Day in Darwin

It's been a lovely six days in Darwin. It's starting to almost feel familiar driving around here now. We're practically locals!

It certainly felt that way when we returned to the Casuarina Square shopping centre for a second time. We were dressed down in T-shirts and thongs. Shameful! How our standards have dropped! Worse still we fitted right in with the locals out en masse for pension day .... except we probably smelled better than most having at least clean clothes and bodies and a passing acquaintance with deodorant.

Ailsa (Ailsa cousin - not you Ailsa Haskell!) had mentioned a movie called "The Last Cab to Darwin" and it sounded like one we'd both enjoy. Besides .... we are in Darwin and have travelled through some of the countryside depicted in the movie, including staying at the Daly Waters Pub. So lets go thought we .

At least the cinema didn't have assigned seating as the Sunshine Plaza ones have. John and I sat by ourselves off to one side. We really enjoyed the movie. It's one that makes you laugh but also brings a tear to your eye. Very Australian humour and great acting. We recommend you see it if you can.

We're off to the movies - thongs present if out of sight

Michael Caton - lead actor.  Spot on!

We've bonded with a few of our fellow campers (to non-Aussies - "we've been chatting to") and lots of them are willing to share their brochures and inside knowledge of the sights we've yet to see ... we're enjoying the camaraderie of the camping life! My only bugbear is that the elderly men will insist on going around shirt-less on their way to and from the amenities block. It's not a pretty sight. The ladies at least cover up modestly (John says thank goodness!).

Next stop after Darwin is Kakadu to meet up with Jess for a couple of days.
