Another day in Paridise here in Montpellier
Barb is enjoying the south of France and it's beautiful warm weather. She can finally ditch the jackets and scarves she needed so badly in England. THIS is more like spring! Today we walked into town and caught the tram, this time buying the appropriate ten-trip tickets, and went to explore a different part of town. It's a pretty big city .... full of history so there's lots to see. It's easy to get around by tram, but there's still a lot of walking involved too.
| Barb spotted some market stalls and she was off! |
| John bought a leather coin purse for two euros here. Must be slave labour. |
| Where do these fancy gates lead? |
| Down a big long avenue to the water tower, that's where! |
| It's a rather impressive water tower |
The old aqueduct for the city is no longer in use. Looks very impressive though. Based on the Roman Pont du Gard still standing near Nimes. That's for next week. |
These gates block access to the old aqueduct. Much prettier than barbed wire! |
| We stroll back down a long avenue of trees |
Another view of the mini Arc de Triomphe (Predates the Parisien upstart by nearly a century and half) |
| It's nice to see the gardens in bloom |
What's this impressive structure? The Palais de Justice - be in awe! (You'd have thought they could afford a dab or two of glyphosate) |
Barb takes a breather on the fountain and consults the city map to find out where the heck we're going |
| We happen upon an undercover food market. Oh yum .... the cheese array |
| We like the look of these outdoor cafes |
| OOh! More markets .... so pretty! |
| Barb's niece Janey would look great in this! |
We found a lovely cafe for lunch. John had a mixed chacuterie board. (Yep. Ate the lot, including salad, and I don't care who knows!) |
| Barb's Croque Monsieur was amazing! |
We were a bit surprised to see armed guards with sub machine guns and loads of police in the Place de la Comedie. |
| We head away from the square to a calming fountain with children's playground |
| Kids having fun in the playground |
| Older teenagers preferred to sit on the grass beside the lake |
| The gardens are glorious in the park |
| We think there was an art exhibition going on in here |
| That's the foreign embassies/consulates behind those flags |
These wierd headless sculptures were in front of The Corum (Conference Centre and Opera House)
| We had dinner out in le Place de la Comedie |

Always good to people watch on the square

We caught the tram back home to our apartment. This time Susan hung on tight when the tram lurched forward. She had done a backwards swan dive into the arms of an unsuspecting seated passenger earlier in the day, when the tram took off with a (helluva) jerk. Luckily she was unhurt thanks to the kind gentleman. I think it made his day to be her knight in shining armour. He certainly seemed quite happy!
