European Trip Days 15 &16 Great Chesterford

Travelling to Susan's

Not much happening over the last couple of days. It took us 12 hours of traveliing and waiting to finally get to Susan's place from Dublin.

We got up very early at Bective where we'd stayed overnight so that we could drop off our hire car near Dublin airport. That all went well, we even managed to find a servo to fill up. Then we caught the shuttle bus from there to the airport and had a very long wait until our 1 pm flight. This time we weren't threatened with being bumbed off the flight, having done pre-check-in online the night before.

When we finally landed at Heathrow there was a long delay sitting first in the plane and then in a shuttle bus on the tarmac to get round to the right unlaoding door, but once we finally picked up our bags we just walked right out without having to clear customs.

Because we were at Terminal Five, it was another hours wait to catch the shuttle bus round to Stanstead airport where Susan was waiting for us. A very loooong day. It was great to see Susan again and she is looking remarkably well and chipper. We're all excited about our up-coming cruise.

The next day was a big day of washing....four huge loads (practically every bit of clothing in our cases plus some of Susan's stuff. We ducked into Saffron Waldon for John to get a haircut, and Barb to post some post cards, and had lunch at a quaint little tea shop there.

It's good to finally just have a day spent resting and chatting. Susan and Barb have caught up on Coronation Street episodes on TV and organised some knitting projects for the cruise down time.

Today, Tuesday 9th we stay overnight at a Gatwick Airport hotel before our early morning flight to Budapest tomorrow.

  1. I am in green envy, that grass at Susan's is amazing, considering it is so dry here and I am looking out on dead grass....
