Riviera cruise aboard MS Oscar Wilde
Barb was super excited to be starting our river cruise on the Danube. Barb, Susan and John stayed overnight at the Holiday Inn at Gatwick so we could catch our 1015 am flight to Budapest. Just as well we flew early...Gatwick airport closed down for some hours due to a technical issue just after our flight left. Phew! We made it to Budapest and were met at the airport by the cruise Director and loaded on to a couple of coaches to go and meet our boat.
The MS Oscar Wilde was moored right in the middle of the city near the chain bridge. Once we were settled in and had some lunch, Barb and John got off the boat for a wander across the bridge to explore Budapest. We didn't go too far off, knowing that we will be coming back here for a few days after our cruise is over.
The chain bridge is a very imposing structure with its two large lions guarding each end of the bridge. It was busy with tourists and a few beggars. We could see the Houses of Parliament across the river, which looked even more magical when lit up and night. There were also quite a number of other big cruise boats and pleasure craft on the river too.
The MS Oscar Wilde is 135 metres long and has 163 guests and 44 staff. It is a new boat and has been beautifully fitted out. Our room has a large glass door which welcomes up so we can look straight out at the water from our lounge chairs or bed. It's fantastic! As you can imagine (with the high staff/guest ratio we are being waited on hand and foot. The food is amazing too! There is no chance of keeping to a diet that's for sure!
I think we are going to love this cruise!
