KNITFEST July 2018

Knitfest 2018

Barb has been knitting and crocheting for months with a group of ten Maleny ladies to create decorations and installations for Knitfest....a Yarn and Fibre Arts Festival which is held in Maleny annually since 2016.
Knitfest is the inspiration of Debs Swain, with Lindel Keilly as her Installations co-ordinator.
This year we have been working on several projects, including a group of knitted Star Wars Droids, a space Ship with"Alien Teddies", a couple of crocheted Male and Female Aliens and an entire BMW car cover.

It's hard to believe that so few people created so much and it is a credit to the ladies that they worked so hard and finished the projects they started.

Soon it was time to hang the bunting, afix the post cosies, dress the cows and install the many installations before Knitfest weekend. It was all hands on deck! Luckily the SES were able to assist us in hanging some of the bunting which was too high for us to do.

The main street of Maleny was awash with colour! Just about anything that stayed still long enough was yarn-bombed. There were a number of entries in our tree decorating contest, and the winners did a fantastic job.

The suitcase markets were run on Saturday morning and were well received by patrons.

The RSL hall was given over to Spinners and weavers and some stores selling yarn and fibre art.

The main venue for KNITFEST was at the Maleny Primary school hall. This is where all the workshops took place and where the BMW was displayed.

The police station and Ambulance station were also decorated in the space theme.

Barb was very excited to have her friend Karen from Rockhampton visiting for Knitfest. Karen brought along her husband Steve and daughter Sarah and Grandchildren, Willow and Max. We had lunch together at the Maleny Hotel before looking around the installations.
