Family time in Yeppoon
Barb was very excited to be in her hometown of Yeppoon and to catch up with her brother Rob, his wife Gayle and several of their kids and grandkids. Prue and Russell were over visiting from Geraldton, so it was a great time to visit.
Firstly we had to check out Barb's old place at Lammermore beach. The old family home has been completely demolished since it was damaged in Cyclone Marcia a couple of years ago. They have built a rather ugly garage in its place. Never mind....the beach and Wreck Point look just the same.
Then we stopped to look at Barb's old school friend Gailen Gaze's place so we could send her some photos of her old house.
Then we went into Yeppoon itself to have a look around. We parked opposite what used to be Pop's old surgery. There's still a medical practice there, but it is now double story and there is a large three story parking garage beside it. They are re-developing the sea front and there will be less parking there so a big car park will be very useful.
We had lunch at Whisk coffee shop and had a look at the main street. It's also looking very well maintained with several new buildings in town.
We met up with Rob and Gayle at their place and them went with them to Statue Bay in the late afternoon so the kids could go paddle boarding. It was beautiful sitting on the beach with a drink in hand watching the sun set. Kate, Clint and Olly also came down so the cousins were having a great time playing together.
Barb even ran into another old school friend, Sue Dory (now Jones) who has a house at Statue Bay.
Rob and Gayle very kindly offered to drive with us to Pam's property at Ward's Lane at Farnborough. It's a bit tricky to find, being up a winding dirt road. We found it with Rob's help and took some photos for her. It's very over-grown so you can't see the stunning sea views too well. We did manage to talk to her next door neighbour's wife while we were there, so she know's that family were visiting the property.
We were invited to join Rob and Gayle and their extended family for a lunchtime BarBQ at Ross Creek. This was a great plan! We set up our chairs under big shady trees and right beside the kids playground and public barbequing shelters. Prue and Russell were there with Kara, Jade and Cody. Kate and Clint were also there with Oliver. Tom and Emma came down from Rockhampton with baby Stella...adorable! Gayle's sister Helen and her husband Lester were also there as well as the Stickley family and their grandkids.
All the kids had a fabulous time together, climbing high up into the branches of a tree and running about playing tag. The adults had a great time too sitting round chatting and watching the kids. It was so special to spend this time with the family.
