Island View caravan park, Kinka Beach
Barb was in heaven to finally be at the beach again in the place where she grew up. We were delighted to have our caravan right across the road from the beach where you could hear the waves distantly crash on the shore. It's a lovely spot under shady trees with lots of bird-life. Karen and Steve have booked the site next to us and will arrive tomorrow afternoon after they finish work.
We got ourselves completely set up including the awnings out. We get a bit of sun in the morning because we are facing East, but the rest of the time it's cool and shaded and fairly private too.
This park is well maintained and they seem to be improving things all the time. John found the amenities block a bit fussy and didn't like the locks on the toilet doors (which didn't work) but the showers were large and had beautiful big shower heads for a nice hot shower. And plenty of hooks to hang your stuff! Most important. There's also a great pool area that has an Adults only pool as well as a kids pool, great playground with jumping pillow. It would be fabulous to bring a young family with kids here.
Kids would also love the resident Shetland ponies, as well as the ducks, and chooks that roam through the campsite.
We cooked dinner on Tuesday night, knowing that Karen and Steve wouldn't get down until late in the afternoon after a long day at work. We were so excited to see them arrive and of course there was a lot of chatter that evening over our meal. John was feeling pretty poorly still with his flu and the coughing is getting quite bad, so we decided not to get up for the Dawn Anzac Service the next day.
Instead we had a very quiet day with Karen and Barb sitting doing crochet for Knitfest (Karen did quite a few squares for the car cover) and also Barb taught Karen how to do Cryptic Crosswors and Karen taught Barb a new computer word game. They had numerous cups of tea and the odd Anzac biscuit as they chatted. John had the day in bed and Steve went off to the Causeway to do some fishing.
The next day, Thursday, both Karen and Steve had to go back to work for the day. We went into town to visit the Doctor after John managed to get a booking at a local Medical Practice online. We picked up some antibiotics for him and had a quiet afternoon pottering around. We're hopeful John will be well enough to attend his Opthalmology appointment when we get back home next Tuesday. There's no way they can do Cataract surgery when he's coughing like this.
Karen had Friday off as she now works a four day week. Poor Steve had to go off to work again. Retirement is looking really good!
Karen and Barb took a small trip into Yeppoon to look for more wool for our crochet project. Yeppoon is really moving along too, with another beachfront development almost finished.
On Saturday the four of us drove the short distance to Emu Park. We had morning tea at Jolt cafe (formerly Deganis) and then went to have a look at the very nice Anzac Memorial there and walk along the boardwalk to the Singing Ship. There were even still floral wreaths in place on the cenetaph outside the Emu Park RSL. The views of the beach and Islands are just spectacular and Emu Park township has grown greatly even since we last visited.
Karen and Barb had a long chat with a couple of our fellow campers who'd posted on the Everything Caravan and Camping website Saturday Morning Check-in that they were at Kinka Beach, while Steve went fishing for the afternoon and caught a dozen fish.
We had visitors coming for dinner at our campsite tonight. Janette and Neil (who Barb has known since Garreth was a baby and Anne and Tom ( who she met through Karen at an annual scrapbooking retreat)
It was so lovely and easy to entertain with a BarBQ at the park. We all sat out under the awning and chatted and laughed til late.
It was very sad to pack up the next morning. We had a wonderful time with our friends (despite poor John being unwell the whole time) It was very relaxed and chilled out.
