Bodmin 2

It's cold and wet in Bodmin

It's the first lot of nasty weather for the trip. We woke up to hear rain falling on the roof and it looked grey and miserable outside. On went the fake fire. At least we were warm and cosy inside.

We spent the morning doing handwork. Susan knitting, me hand sewing the wedding dress for the bear I had knitted. We also put on a couple of loads of wash. It was very pleasant just sitting round chatting and relaxing. Almost like being on holiday!

I did venture outside with an umbrella for a short walk down to the paddock across the road to see the horses. They looked very forlorn standing out there in their coats and came running over to see me thinking I had food or the offer of shelter. I had neither so the skittered off in a huff. I took some photos of the outside of the farm and the narrow roads leading in. We are getting better at navigating our way back through the maze of tiny roads, as we're starting to recognise some landmarks now.

By lunch time the sky had started to lighten and brighten. Patches of blue struggling to burst through. We abandoned our projects and headed into Bodmin to look around.
As we were looking for somewhere to park, we drove past the beautiful old shire hall building and noticed a sign for an Embroiderer's Guild exhibition. Oh joy! We had been hoping to find some sort of art exhibition. Cornwall is a very arty area.

The embroidery was really good. Very high quality design and craftsmanship. We spent quite some time walking around looking at all the different techniques used. Some actually looked like paintings ,so fine and intricate were the stitches. Some had incorporated hand painted silks and other textiles and even shells into their work. We enjoyed it very much. At the end we had to vote for our favourite. It was difficult to pick just one.

Afterwards we had a brief wander around the town. Not really much to see apart from some lovely architecture of the old church and a few other buildings.Shopping wise it looked a bit tired. We did find a lovely cafe though, serving cream teas of course. Happiness!

We're hoping the weather will allow us to visit the Eden project tomorrow.
