Tassie Trip March 2018: Launceston via Richmand, Oatlands & Campbell Town

Heading to Launceston....

This trip is sadly all too short. We didn't have time to have a look at the Tasman Blowhole, Tasman Arch Devil's Kitchen and Eaglehawk Neck yesterday as we simply ran out of time, so we decided to get away early and cram in a quick visit to all these sights on our way up to Launceston. As you do...
Luckily there wasn't too much walking involved in seeing all these sights. We could drive right there in the car and then take a brief walk to get some photos. All good! It's certainly worth seeing.

Then in was back in the car and full steam ahead to Richmond. Barb really wanted to spend some time looking around this gorgeous old historic town with its lovely convict built stone bridge. We found a cafe selling wonderful icecream too, so Barb was indeed in heaven! The bridge was magnificent and so picturesque. You can see why tourist flock here.

Further north we stopped at Oatlands to have a look at the historic flour mill. It is still in operation and sells rather pricey organic flour, ground by a windmill powered millstone.

Of course we had to also stop in our namesake town, Ross. Ross also has a very beautiful old bridge and lovely old church. We had a look around some of the boutique shops and bought some lovely warm woollen gloves.

Campbell Town had some beautiful wood carvings in a park beside their old red brick bridge. A less impressive bridge than the previous two we'd seen today, but the town had a nice feel to it and was worth a stop.

We finally reached Launceston in the late afternoon. We were booked into an AirBnB here quite close to where Jess lives. It was a self check-in with a key safe that we were given the code to. Made it very easy. The down side was we never did get to meet our hosts once in the two nights we were there.

There was enough time to take a quick look at Cataract Gorge which was only five minutes drive away. We were just in time to be able to take the last chairlift ride of the day across the gorge. Barb didn't have time to get scared or baulk...we were on it before we knew it, dangling way up high in the air. You get fabulous views, it has to be said. At various stages our feet almost skimmed the treetops.
After that exhilaration we walked over to and across the suspension bridge that spans the gorge. This would be a lovely place to picnic if you lived here and has some great walking/running tracks also.

We went into the city to try to find somewhere to eat. It was surprisingly difficult to find anywhere still open. Should've thought that through. Eventually we found a trendy burger joint and had a great meal.

The AirBnB accommodation was okay, but not particularly wonderful. We never did get to try their breakfast ( which we would've had to go to the common dining area for anyway, since we left so early both mornings.
