Tassie Trip March 2018: Deloraine, Cradle Mountain & Devonport

 Deloraine to Cradle Mountain

Jess called us early our first morning in Launceston. We drove over to her place, which turned out to be just a couple of blocks away and had breakfast at her unit and then took of towards Deloraine on our way to Cradle Mountain.

Deloraine is a very pretty little town with a beautiful riverside park. We stopped here for some morning tea and a brief look around before heading on towards Cradle Mountain.

We took the "scenic route" which...you guessed it...means VERY winding! We went through Mole Creek and stopped at a couple of lookouts to admire the spectacular mountain views. Just as well we weren't towing a caravan though. I don't think I would like to do some of those hairpin bends whilst towing.

We made it to the Cradle Mountain Information Centre in time for lunch, so we ate first before catching the shuttle bus into the National Park.
It really is quite amazing when you get your first glimpse of the Lake. A WOW! moment. It's something we've all seen pictures of...but experiencing the real thing is a must. We were blessed with some beautiful fine weather too, so that made it even better.

We didn't do a full circuit of the lake as we just didn't have the time, but we did go around to the iconic boatshed and also across to the other side where you get great views from a big mountainous boulder. We were rapt!

We drove back via a different route, detouring to Devonport on the way home to Launceston. It was a huge diversion actually, but it meant we got to see the ferry in port. Handy to know in case we ever bring the car across from the mainland.
We were pretty exhausted after our huge day, so had an early night so we could make an early getaway next morning.
