Lap Around Australia ..Daley Waters

Daley Waters

John and I had stayed at Daley Waters a couple of times before and Karen and Steve, Ian and Kathy were also keen to experience this iconic outback pub.

We arrived early and were guided into our campsites by a man on a scooter. Last time it was by a man on a push bike...they've gone up-market! We are lucky to be here early as there was a constant stream of vehicles following us in. We were crammed in like sardines...much closer than we'd ever camped to people before. This was not a big problem however as it made it almost impossible not to socialise with your neighbours and we had a lot of good conversations and shared stories with the ones around us.

We had booked into the pub for the "Beef and Barra BBQ" and show that night. So with no meal preparation to do we headed into the bar for a look around at all its quirky features. Inside is a sight to behold! Literally every vertical surface is hung with all sorts of collections of things. Bras, Hats, Rugby shirts, paper money, business cards....you name it..it's hung there. The overall effect is eclectic to say the least.

Outside there is an outdoor pool and bar area. Lots of people were swimming in the pool despite it being a little cool in the water. The kids were having fun!

Across the road there's a small servo and shop, all decorated as well. At night this was covered in fairy lights. By day the bougainvillea was just beautiful.

We enjoyed our evening of entertainment and food at the pub. They had two different entertainers who encouraged the crowd to join in with singing, clapping and dancing. A fun night out in the bush!
