Home to Maleny

Honey I'm Home!

I'm writing this on Thursday 10th July, having got back to Australia yesterday at midday. It seems a shame not to finish off the blog properly, so here we go....last blog post until our next holiday.

On our last morning in New York, Jan and I were the only wedding guests still left at the hotel.
We were both quite excited to be going back to our boys, and after skype calling them, it was obvious they were equally keen to have us back!

We went down to breakfast, and since we'd packed the previous night we decided there was plenty of time to go out for a walk before our shuttle bus arrived at 11.30 to take us the JFK airport.

We walked past Open Kitchen, where we'd had lunch the previous day with Pam and Diana. Since the coffee at the hotel was pretty ordinary, we detoured in here to have a decent cappuccino. Then we walked on and came upon the Downtown Tiffany & Co store. Of course we had to go in and buy a little something. Across the road from this store is another Trump building, almost as glitzy as the other we'd been to and a few doors down from there was the gym where I presume Zach and Garreth must've visited on the wedding day.

We continued down the street to the Holy Trinity Church and around the corner to the World Trade Centre memorial garden and fountains. Although I had been here just a couple of days ago, Jan hadn't. You can't come to New York without paying respects here.

We got back to the hotel and picked up our luggage from the storage area at the hotel and waited for our airport transport. It was a large minivan that seated 10 people. Jan and I were the first passengers and we wound our way uptown picked up extra passengers at three more hotels as we went.
It was slow progress, but at least not as hair-raising as our taxi ride in on the first day.

I was dropped at Terminal 7 and then the others at their various terminals. Jan got back OK so she must've made her flight in time. I was way early, but pleased to be at the airport.
The flight home was extremely long and tiring. I only just managed to make my connection to the domestic flight in Sydney as I had to pick up my luggage and go through customs there and then get to the domestic terminal and drop of the main bag and then to the boarding gate. Our flight had been delayed half an hour in LA, so there was not much time, but thank goodness I made it.

John was waiting with me when I walked off the plane in Brisbane. My luggage also found its way home. Happiness!
We drove home in the new red Subaru Imprezza that John bought while I was away. It's lovely and I approve his choice.
It's great to be home!!!!
