Lap Around Australia : Broome Jetty

Broome Jetty, The Wharf and Port

Jess and Barb had seen a picture of Reddell beach in one of the many Broome brochures they'd poured over. A favourite beach for locals it said. It looked nice with its red pindan cliffs and was just along from Gantheaume Point according to the map.

NOT so easy to find as it turns out. Barb and Jess drove along a red sandy road for a few kilometres and failed to find the entry point to the beach.  Barb put the car in 4WD mode as the sand was quite deep and slippery to drive on.What they did find eventually was the Port and Jetty. That'll do.

They walked out as far as allowed on the jetty and then noticed that there was access to a beach just across the road. Down they went to the beach. Pretty soon they found themselves wading through ankle deep soft sand. It was like quicksand, except you only sank ankle deep. Still....it was pretty hard going! They persevered to the rocks, thinking that maybe Reddell beach might be just around the corner. No such luck. A local lady walking her dog assured them that it was much further away.

Disappointed, they traipsed back through the deep sand and after washing their feet ventured into a restaurant called The Wharf. Sitting outside in the garden sipping Gin and Tonics seemed to make the day much better!
