UK Trip Day 15 Danby,Yorkshire

Danby

We're here in Danby. The "cottage" (It's actually a three story four bathroom house) is set in a vale on the Yorkshire Moors. It is very picturesque but also quite isolated. I can't even imagine what it must be like living here in winter when the roads are impassable with snow, for even in summer the access roads are pretty dodgy.

The road into the cottage goes along the middle of the distant ridge

Farm out-buildings at the property (no longer in use)

A sunny spot to sit protected from the wind
Barb chose to stay at home today while John and Susan ventured out to the shops in Danby. They found a better route out to the main road and even easily found the Co-op supermarket which had remained elusive yesterday. They came home with bags of groceries. I don't think we'll starve anytime soon.

Lovely rural views from every window
We tried to go for a walk this afternoon. We've seen determined hikers in the distance tramping up the hill through nearby fields of cows and sheep. We, on the other hand, didn't get far before the cold wind drove us back. It's okay in the sun if you're out of the wind, but the wind is very penetrating and our coats are not up to the job. Neither of us remembered to bring gloves and Barb's hands don't like the cold. Oh well...it's warm inside and we have books.
Cows and calves right outside the wondow

The view
The dogs seem to be enjoying their new temporary home, although have to be confined to the house garden as there's fairly young calves and lambs in the nearby fields.
