Aussie Road Trip Day One Monday 15th July 2013

On our way......after a slow start

BARB
It was crazy to think we could possibly get an early start away on our holiday. Having just returned on Sunday evening from a three day trip to Bundaberg to attend the annual Red Hat Girlfriends Giggle.....the chance of being organised enough to leave home in the morning to go on a three week road trip was remote.

Hah! What was I thinking?

The house was a tip. There were small muddy paw prints all throughout the house on the white tiles. Thanks Lily! She had had a wonderful time playing chicken in front of the lawn mower on Sunday morning as John tried to tidy the yard before our departure. Then she found a patch of fresh orange mud to dig in. Glorious fun!

At least she got lots of exercise

Mess? What mess? Was just walking through.....

Pam and I returned to find Lily very dirty and happy, and John a little frazzled. Never mind.....we pulled together as a team on Monday morning - John doing cullinary things in the kitchen, me doing a pile of wash and cleaning the floor. Amazingly, we finally did get away at 1.15pm and decided to head to Warwick.

The drive to Warwick via the Cunningham Highway was relaxed and rather picturesue. Despite the fact that it was raining (and it's been raining in Maleny almost incessantly all year), once we hit the Cunningham Highway the landscape became remarkably brown, interspersed with little patchwork patches of bright green where the fields were under irrigation. With the Great Dividing Range providing a backdrop to the very flat plain, it was actually quite spectacular.

Negotiating Cunningham's Gap you can see how this road could be lethal in foggy conditions. Large trucks barrel along, taking the hairpin bends without raising an eyebrow (theirs anyway....mine were up in my hairline). We arrived in Warwick to a double rainbow. A good omen? We're staying at City View Motel on the main highway. It reminds me very much of times travelling with Mum and Pop as a kid. I've ordered brekkie from the menu, and it will be delivered to our room through a service hatch tomorrow morning. Woo Hoo! Holidays have begun.

A comfy warm bed,and congenial hosts...great!

Barb tells me (that's John!) it's my turn to add my pennyworth.  Nope - she's pretty well covered it already. Long morning at home cleaning, and preparing meals for our return with David and Ailsa, followed by a leisurely drive to Warwick. Let's hope the rain holds off.
